The very first programme of our branch, the Burdwan Branch of Indian
Psychiatric Society was held on 10.09.2006, at the
Sanskriti Conference Hall, from 5-8 PM.
Dr.
Ranadip Ranjan Ghosh Roy, General Secretary, IPS, formally inaugurated the branch by lighting the inaugural lamp and then
announced the Executive Committee, which is as hereunder:

4. Secretary: Dr. Mainak Mukherjee
5. Assistant Secretary: Dr. Devashis Konar

8. Members: Dr. Sayantan Patra, Dr.
Paromita Roy, Dr. Shuvashis Nag
President Dr. A. B. Patra delivered the introductory lecture, on the transition and transformation
of psychiatry in South Bengal in the last 50 years.
Dr. R. R. Ghosh Roy, General Psychiatry, Indian Psychiatric Society appreciated the venture
of Bardhaman Branch and wished the best in days to come. He said that Bardhaman Branch was the 13th Local Branch in our country
and the very first in West Bengal. He hoped that as the branch activities proliferate, we would be able to take psychiatry
more to the people and many superstitions and dilemmas would be overcome.

Observation of Alzheimer Centenary
The
branch has observed Alzheimer Centenary on 24th September 2006, by holding a People’s Awareness Programme on
Alzheimer’s
and Related Disorders at
Sanskriti
Conference Hall, Burdwan, from 3.30 – 6.30 PM.
The speakers included
Dr. N. N. Sarangi, Consultant Neurologist and President, ARDSI, Calcutta Chapter, Dr. Jyotirmay Samajdar, Consultant
Psychiatrist from MON Fondation,Calcutta, Ms. Nilanjana Maulik, Secretary, ARDSI, Calcutta Chapter, Ms. Sonya Smart, our guest
from Southern Cross Care, Australia, a Dementia Care organization and Brig. S P Bhattacharya, a Dementia Carer and Executive
member of ARDSI Calcutta.
Dr. Sarangj announced the inception of the Bardhaman Alzheimer Society, in
association with ARDSI, Calcutta Chapter, lighted the inaugural lamp and announced its Executive Committee on that day, at
3 PM, at the same venue.
Rtn Adv Samir Choudhury, District Governor, R. I. dis. 3240 inaugurated the awareness
programme.
Other dignitaries present included Mr. Nikhilananda Sar, Member
of the Parliament, Ex-M.P. Mr. Sudhir Roy, ADM(G) of Burdwan Mr. Asis Chakraborty, District Engineer Mr. Debashis Tewari.

Observing Woeld Suicide Prevention Day 2008
World Suicide Prevention Day was observed on 10th Sept 2008 at IMA Hall, Burdwan,
at 8 PM, where Dr. Subrata Sen made a presentation on this year's theme, "Think Globally, Plan Nationally and Act Locally".
